Paleoista: Gain Energy, Get Lean, And Feel Fabulous With The Diet You Were Born To Eat (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
More than a diet plan; a life changing commitment to eating unprocessed, off-the-hoof and from-the-garden foods. She makes an eye-opening case for staying away from processed foods with lengthy and unpronounceable ingredients. These nasty chemicals can contribute to disease in both body and mind. The paleo regimen is a bit too intense for me, but I do plan to steer clear of anything labeled "diet" and start reading the contents of what goes in my mouth! This book only reinforced the fact that I believe Paleo is just another BS fad "diet". From the author's condescending "I'm better than everyone" tone to the name dropping and "testimonials" (which I doubt the validity of), it just comes across as a Sorority girl who finds her magic diet and wants to tell you all about how you MUST try it too. If you don't, then you suck, you're stupid, etc.Newsflash - if you were born in the modern age, taken antibiotics, used NSAIDs, been vaccinated as an infant, ingested GMOs (which, if you've been alive in the past few decades you HAVE somewhere), used hair dye and most other cosmetic products, been exposed to pollution, used a cell phone, stood in front of the microwave, and pretty much have done anything except simply live, breathe, sleep, entertain yourself with sticks and fire, and go kill animals and pick plants for your food then your body is NOT in the same "pristine" condition as a caveman and as much as you try, it will NEVER be. You were not "Born to eat" the same diet. From the time you were stabbed with that Vitamin K injection and had erythromycin rubbed in your eyes at birth your body was chemically altered. Today's modern human processes everything from food to psychological processes far different than a caveperson.By all means, please stop eating the majority of crap food that's out there today. Eat whole, real, natural foods. All that I completely agree with. But cutting out a food group (grains) that modern humans have sustained themselves on for many years now by claiming they weren't "born to eat" it is just silly. If someone has a actual allergy to gluten, etc, then those specific ingredients can be targeted, but everyone on Earth need not be afraid of eating a cup of rice. The author of this book seriously insinuated that taking ONE BITE of cake would ruin someone's gut. Really???Here's an idea: find out what foods work for you. Eat those. Live happy.
