Esta foi o meu primeiro contacto com a escrita de Abbott. A sinopse está muito bem conseguida e é clara q.b. Normalmente não gosto de utilizar sinopses como parte integrante da minha opinião mas neste caso abrirei uma excepção. A velocidade e intensidade do enredo não me permitem elaborar muito sobre as personagens pois incorreria no risco de revelar mais do que o necessário. No meu entender a acção faz os personagens e para versar sobre estes teria de dar a conhecer a tal.Num ritmo alucinado Jeff relata-nos como Evan Casher, após encontrar morta a sua mãe, é embrenhado numa trama de proporções quase bíblicas. CIA, FBI, MI5, MI6, ramos secretos no interior destas organizações e até o KGB estarão, de alguma forma, no encalço deste realizador de documentários e restante família. Evan não pode confiar em ninguém e a sua vida está sempre presa por um fio.No que diz respeito à escrita do autor devo dizer que a achei bastante interessante. O texto é directo, simples e pouco descritivo mas a vertiginosidade deste enredo é tal que, de facto, não haveria tempo a perder com minudências. Se alguém está a apontar uma arma à cabeça de outrem e se deseja fazer sentir "a cena", não me pareceria muito inteligente que o narrador se pusesse a discorrer sobre uma cagadela de mosca nos cortinados "marron". Abbot conseguiu fazer-me correr na leitura para ver se acompanhava a velocidade com que este a narrava e achei isso delicioso.À medida que a acção vai decorrendo - e não posso explicar porquê - os personagens evoluem. Gostei desse facto. Normalmente prefiro personagens mordazes, inteligentes, com sentido de humor e um pouco cruéis. No início da narrativa o nosso herói era um pouco, como dizer, murcão (ler com sotaque do Norte) e fiquei bastante satisfeito que o gajo se fizesse homem e abrisse os olhos.Outra das razões para a minha dificuldade em elaborar esta crítica deve-se à circunstância de estar cheio de sono. É que faltavam "poucas" páginas para o fim do livro e este género não quer saber dessas coisas, não é? Vai daí aqui o jovem foi dormir às tantas e agora está bêbedo de sono.Resumindo e concluindo, adorei este thriller. É um excelente livro. Finalmente, acabei Pânico. Muito a custo, na verdade. Hoje à tarde, obriguei-me a acabar este livro.Não é que não seja um bom livro, porque eu gostei da história em si, dos personagens e de todas as intrigas - estava tudo verdadeiramente bem construído.Mas é uma escrita algo difícil de ler - é preciso estar com cabeça e disposição para o ler. É um livro pesado, cheio de pormenores, de factos novos a entrarem e que precisam de ser processados. Existe qualquer coisa sempre a acontecer.Talvez este livro não tenha sido a melhor escolha para iniciar este autor. Mas agora que já está, nada a fazer.Comparando este autor ao James Rollins, sem dúvida, prefiro o James. Têm estilos de escrita bastante distintos e o de James é muito mais fácil de se ler e são histórias mais dinâmicas. Apesar de terem bastante movimento e acção, são intrigas menos pesadas.Talvez esta apenas, não fosse a melhor altura para ler um livro destes. Porque sinto, que este livro poderia ter sido melhor aproveitado noutras circunstâncias.Em resumo, gostei e não gostei desta experiência.

A pretty average book. Good at drawing you into the story but such a cliched one. A lot of the information was a bit muddled and Jargo's personality changed from quiet with regret to a stone cold killer. For me this book felt rushed and unbelievable as Evan went from a pretty average boring guy to someone with high knowledge on a range of things with the intelligence to be able to scheme a workable plan of deep depth, all in a week. And the love story didn't work greatly for me, I am, however, interested in what might have been between Dezz and Carrie and would probably have liked some more time on the development of a relationship there.

Good action. I would call it a good pass time book. Nothing to write home about. The one big but is that the author brings up Colombia and Bogota in relation to some drug traffic deal that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO with the plot. I wish people would quit referring to Colombia only for the bad and begin to see the beauty of the country and the REAL people. Plus the cartels don't exist anymore. All of the drug lords are in prison, they are GONE for ever. Every other book I read makes reference to Colombia and the bad things this only shows how ignorant of the world these authors really are. I had given this book two stars but I am taking one off, it might serve the author good to do some reading and research before writing.
