Paris Street Style (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

This is a fun read, with lots of interviews with French style-makers and loads of photographs. The style-makers (from designers, to fashion editors, to hair dressers) have strong opinions, which I love. What I don't love so much is all of the rules. Some general rules, like always buy quality over quantity, I can get on-board with. But pastel cigarette pants will ruin your reputation? Hmmm. I guess I prefer the rules-are-meant-to-be-broken approach by Veronique Vienne and the like. Still, some great inspiration in these pages. Rating clarification: 2.5This book was actually not terrible. I loved the pictures, although there weren't a tonne of them, and I enjoyed reading the many interviews with designers, magazine editors, hairstylists and the like. Some of the advice was common sense, but other bits were helpful. The main message: always buy quality over quantity. It's better to save up and buy a good quality pair of jeans than three cheaper pairs that will wear out quickly.Having said this, some of the things listed were quite contradictory. "Have your own individual style, don't just go with the tends! But also follow this list of fashion dos and don'ts and only pair these items with these outfits." And I never quite figured out how the authors felt about tights.Perhaps I would have enjoyed this book more if I were older, had more money to spend (college life) and was able to spend more time shopping. The advice for older women seemed very good. I also would've liked it more if I were reading it because it had been leant to me or I got it from the library instead of paying too much for too little useful information.
