When I finally got my fangs to retract, I couldn’t help the wide grin that lit up my face. “Good one. You did it.” For once she didn’t sound sarcastic or flippant. Just then Damien approached with a man who looked to be in his mid-forties. He was quite overweight and not particularly appealing but my focus was less on his appearance and more on the smell of the blood pumping through his body. “Take his wrist babe. He’s under mind control so he has no idea what’s happening. When you feed, you must monitor their pulse. When it slows, you stop, ok?” I barely listened to him, hastily grabbing the broad wrist of the man and with a throaty growl; I buried my fangs in his meaty neck. I felt the vein pop and his blood began to flow into my mouth. It wasn’t as sweet as the paramedic’s had been but I was so fucking hungry, I didn’t care and fed frantically, swallowing noisily. “Remember his pulse.”
