***TRIGGER WARNING*** Skye Walker (yeah, yeah get your laughs out now) fell in love with a boy named Sean. The first few months were perfect, but he slowly began to break her down until she believed the words he slung at her… until she believed she deserved the punches thrown at her. Afraid to tell anyone, she follows him across the country to college in Seattle, where he shortly breaks up with her. Skye really spirals into a depression, wearing baggy, oversized clothing to hide herself and is constantly studying to take her mind off of her past relationship. One day in her psychology class, she literally runs into one of the TAs. Duke Ashdown can instantly tell something is wrong when she cringes away from his touch. Desperate to get to know her and help her, he begins a friendship. Skye is hesitant, afraid of getting hurt again. With the help of her roommate, Kate, Skye slowly allows herself to feel loved and to love back. Skye and Duke’s friendship turns into a romance, and Skye is terrified. She keeps pushing him away, knowing that she will inevitably get hurt. Duke pushes her away, because after losing one of the people he loved most, he’s afraid to feel that type of pain again. This book was amazing! It ends in a way that you don’t have to read the next book, but you can if you want. I highly recommend following this with book two, Fix Up. I know that some people might get really annoyed with how the two main characters know they have problems, but don’t try to fix them. The way they keep pushing each other away may drive people insane, but I’m writing this to tell you if you hate that, then this book isn’t for you. But that didn’t bother me. I was so consumed in the story and the way that Duke and Skye are together, that I didn’t care about much else. All I wanted was for the two to finally realize that they’re it for each other, but something always tries to break them apart. I really think Stephanie did an amazing job with this book! She has me totally invested in this story and after reading book two, I am even more in love with Skye and Duke. Definitely one of my top five star reads for the year. Do you ever start a story and know in the first five minutes that it will be one you remember forever? That it’s a book you that will touch you and you won’t forget about! Well I am here to tell you Patch Up by Stephanie Witter is that book. This is book one in the series and, yes, read in order!!Skye is a shell of who she once was, broken by her pathetic of an excuse ex Sean. She is barely making it through life. She has mastered how to navigate on automatic through her life. She has no friends and cares nothing about it. Skye cannot even stand to be touched or in a crowded place. She has even distanced herself from her parents. Skye has no inkling on how to open up and live her life. Her roommate Kate is bubbly and so amazing. We all need a Kate. No matter how hateful and weird Skye acts, Kate keeps trying! They were meant to be friends!“One Day you’ll see me as your friend and then you’ll be the closest thing to a sister I’ll ever have.”One day everything changes all by accident when Skye runs into the smoking hot tattooed TA Duke Ashdown. Fate has stepped in and put the wheels in motion for these two. Skye has no idea how much she needs Duke and how far he is willing to prove to her that he will save her. At the same time Skye is making Duke deal with his past and his fears. These two are a collision course of past hurts. Can two people so broken really be good for each other? I am a firm believer that if you really love someone you fight with everything you have. I was rooting for these two every step of the way. Duke is so patient with Skye. He helps her open up. The only problem is they both have a way of shutting down and running away just when secrets or feelings become involved. I did love that they kept going back and working on it. Duke is so romantic. When Skye’s ex comes trotting back around and throwing his stink around Duke defends her going all sexy Alpha. Trust me, you will love the showdown. I wanted to be front row with popcorn. Better yet, I wanted to be kicking the ex’s butt. This is an emotional rollercoaster ride book but trust me it is 100% worth it. Duke makes up go all gaga for him. My favorite thing he says to Skye is“I’d love for you to see how beautiful you are, just like I see you.”Skye is a fighter and her story will touch you. It will make you want to wrap her up and protect her forever. I fell in love with how Duke saves her and I cannot wait to see Skye save Duke in book 2.Five massive stars!! We highly recommend this book. Pick it up today!!!
