This is my second book by this author, who I had never even heard of before I got the first one in this series as a free download for Kindle. I'm not sure if this is his first series but I just really like the way he writes. It's not any kind of bestseller as far as I know but, as with the first book, I enjoyed it from beginning to end. There are no gimmicky cliffhangers at the end of every single chapter, he doesn't rotate around among the viewpoints of different characters, and there haven't been any mind-blowing plot twists, but most of the character development is solid and the story development seems completely realistic. There is a bit of a spiritual journey woven in but it's not overt and it's not awkwardly forced either. Looking forward to reading the next one! This author keeps turning out first class Christian themed detective stories that can stand up next to anything that's on the NY Times Best Seller list, IMO.In Christian crime fic, Det. Roland March is "de man." Hey, in any crime fic...he's like so many real cops...battered by his job. He and wife Charlotte are complex characters that can easily carry from novel from novel with out running out of gas. The author knows how cops walk and talk and how they really are. This is the second in the series and it doesn't disappoint. Fast paced with a terrible killer, and a clever one.
What do You think about Pattern Of Wounds (2011)?
I really like this series and had trouble putting these Houston based mysteries down.

A worthy follow-up to Back on Murder. J. Mark Bertrand can write!
