Pearls and Poison is the 3rd book in the Consignment Store Series featuring Reagan as the female lead. This series makes me laugh!! It is a fun book to read. The characters are ‘over the top’, but great fun. The story line was good. Reagan’s mother is a judge running for alderman. She is suspected of killing her closest opponent (which no one likes or trusts). The judge is a wonderful character who is caught by many people punching the soon to be dead person in the nose outside of his campaign headquarters. Of course Reagan is told by a slight love interest Boone (an attorney) to ‘leave it alone’, but she can’t and does her own investigation (without thinking things through first). She is joined by her Aunt Kiki who is also someone who goes into things without thinking. The characters are great in this series. The author keeps you guessing as to who the killer really is. I highly recommend this book. I enjoy the Reagan Summerside series. Her antics with her sidekick Aunt KiKI are very funny, and believable. Her love/hate relationship with her ex-husband’s lawyer is also an interesting feature that continues to be developed further with each book. In Pearls and Poison we are finally introduced to Reagan’s mother, Judge “Guillotine” Gloria. Again the author has done an excellent job in creating a very real character, complete with flaws. The plot is nicely crafted and the villain(s) are not revealed until the end. This is the third in a very funny and delightfully well-written mystery series. I look forward to further adventures with Reagan, her hot-dog loving dog, and the rest of her friends and cohorts in both fashion and mystery solving.
