Perfect Health Diet: Regain Health And Lose Weight By Eating The Way You Were Meant To Eat (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
Notes:*a scientifically-based scam -- another detox diet pitched as a lifestyle*an attempt to convince you that you were meant to eat like a caveman that evolved from apes; heavy emphasis on evolution*18+ supplements are necessary!!!!! EIGHTEEN!!!! eight are daily!*bone broth is not going to help you with your calcium needs -- just one of many poorly researched items of this book*enjoy leftovers mixed with 3 egg yolks for lunch every day for the rest of your life -- that's the meal plan folks*up to 1 lb. meat + 1 lb. 'safe starches' + 2-3 lbs. veggies daily*learn to depend on beef and fish for your meat-5-days-a-week eating plan, since apparently poultry and pork are sub-par*never eat pasta, bread, pizza, gravy ever again -- but enjoy your daily ration of rice, potatoes, yams and taro root every day for the rest of your life*apparently we were all MEANT to live on a tropical island eating coconut, taro, tapioca, rice, avocado, plantains, bananas, mango...*no mention of soaking grains/beans, raw milk, or cod liver oil even though he references Weston Price's brilliant work*fasting is mandatory and daily calories are restricted to 1600-2000, yet you are supposed to be active -- THIS IS A DIET*you are forbidden to eat ANY form of sugar except certain fruits and you must cut out all processed food.... hmmm... who COULDN'T get healthy and lose weight doing just that???*no healthy traditional society ever relied on pills for longevity, but when you cut out entire food categories, the only way to make up the loss is with science*the authors have PhDs, but NOT in nutrition Paleo diet gurus are truly irritating: too sure of themselves, flaunting their PhDs and disdaining what they call "mainstream" nutritional science... But this book distances itself from Paleo orthodoxy (for example, promoting what the authors call "safe starches") and makes some interesting points, especially the concept of "nutrient hunger". Their recommended diet (prettily summarized into an apple diagram) is sensible in spite of their anti-wheat advice, which is very well if you are celiac or gluten-intolerant but not as a general rule...
