She’d acted on impulse. Thank God the phone had interrupted, or she would have made a serious error. That Nick still held such a sexual thrall over her after all this time was disturbing on multiple levels. She’d stepped into his arms to stop an argument and had almost ended up having sex with him on a desktop. Who was she kidding? Certainly not herself. She was becoming addicted to him all over again and reminded herself of how well that had ended before. Nick was definitely not excited about her field study in Niger, but that was too damn bad. She’d worked hard for this trip, and the idea that she could actually go was so thrilling she could barely contain herself. She’d been horribly disappointed when she’d had to cancel, particularly after the countless hours she’d spent painstakingly organizing the dig, dealing with the constantly changing government officials, and navigating the regulations to get the proper approvals and permits for the project. And now she was going, all because one of the other professors couldn’t attend due to health issues.
