Pieces Of Us (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Let me first of by saying that it is so beyond hard to read a book when you can't relate to any of the characters in it, or even like for that matter. I HATED Alex from the minute he started talking, I never found him cute or funny even when he was with Katie and the reader got to see a different side of him. The same with Katie, like as I was reading it I never liked her, and I know this sounds horrible, but even after she was raped by those two guys, I never felt sorry for her. And don't even get me started on the mother, she was the worst person ever I wanted to rip out the pages in disgust (katie's mother, alex's mother was bad too but not that bad). But that is probably what Margie wanted the reader to feel, so I can't argue too much about that. I found myself getting very very bored towards the middle, I feel like the pace should have gone faster than it did. And there was a lot of cussing and graphic writing for a supposed "teen novel". Other than that, the story was OK, but this definitely would be one of my least favorite books of all time. I really wanted to love this book. I didn't hate it but it was far from love for me. I think it popped up on here as a recommendation..so I tried it. The story is told from 4 different POV. I like that format. The story is about life, love, sex, and teenage angst. When it talked of secrets, I thought that there was a murder mystery coming...nope, I was wrong. There was too much swearing for me (and plus I can't recommend it to kids at my elementary school). My public library doesn't own it so again, I won't be able to talk about it with the teenagers who come to me looking for a good read. I powered through even though I wanted to give up.
