When Fergus and his little brother Dink go to the beach, they find an assortment of treasures but not one comparable to the surf board they found. They named him Dave and although they would not go into the water, they found new and innovative uses for him. However, when Fergus goes to get ice cream, Dink feels bad that Dave is not in his home, the ocean. So he pushes him out to sea but Fergus refuses to let Dave go so he swims out to get him. Just as he climbs up on Dave, a huge wave comes and pushes Dave and Fergus down a massive wave right onto the beach. To Fergus and Dink’s surprise, the ocean wasn’t so scary after all. This is a cute and fun story for children up to the ages of about eight. This book could be used in the classroom as a very fun and interactive read aloud. PB 7: Pig Kahuna gives life to a surf board. As a child I always tried to make friends with rocks and non-living things. These little piggy’s encounter a surf board as a beach treasure and they decide to name him Dave. Dave was very loyal and always did what he was told. I think this would open the door for kids to learn how to interact and create friendships. This shows kids that you can be friends with just about anything or anybody for that matter!
What do You think about Pig Kahuna (2011)?
