Platform: Get Noticed In A Noisy World (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
Platform is a good book to get you up to speed with how to blog and build an online presence. Most of what's here is very basic, with occasional insights that make reading it worth it to people who have been around a bit. It's not so much that there is any major aha moment, but there are some tips on how to determine post length, handle guest posts, post frequency, post title. How to get started on Twitter and maybe even get a few followers. How to keep your personal brand coherent across the various social media sites. etc.I should say that I started this expecting a book on how to build a product that becomes a platform. Clearly that is not what this book is about. If someone has a recommendation for a book about building software platforms, I'd love to hear about it. This is a comprehensive, yet easy to read book on how to get noticed with any thing you might have to say, write, or sell. Michael Hyatt is an authority on the subject, writes in a conversational tone, and provides numerous examples and resources. The book has short, quick chapters that are easy to refer back to for step-by-step guidance on setting up a web presence, blogging, speaking, and numerous other building blocks of a successful platform. This is an excellent resource.
