Playing Doctor (Entangled Brazen) (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
A great read by Author Jan Meredith! From the way the 2 main characters meet to the way it ends this author knows how to keep you spellbound! Take two troubled people, throw in some emergency CPR and let the fire burn! This author is hot and I can't wait to read more of her books as time goes on.Warning this book will hook you in so that you can't put it down!I received and ARC for my honest review 3-3.5 starsThis was a good story. I liked Beth and Gabe and their story was predictable but enjoyable. This is the first story I've read by this author and based on this I'd be willing to try more of her work in the future.Beth is a RN who used to work in the ER but recently got promoted to the nursing manager. She married her high school sweetheart at a very young age when she turned up pregnant. Unfortunately, her husband didn't handle the lumps in life well and took his problems out on Beth, eventually becoming physically abusive. He died 4 years ago and Beth has been trying to get on with life, concentrating on her work and raising her son.Gabe is a doctor in an ER. He used to have a private practice but when his wife died 2 years ago, Gabe decided to change things up and the ER worked well, keeping him too busy to wallow in his misery. Gabe has been trying to move on but hasn't felt much luck as he has trouble being with another woman without feeling guilty about his late wife.Beth's son, Drew, is a senior in high school and a very talented photographer. Drew got a job taking photos of a wedding and Beth went along to act as his assistant. While at the wedding, Beth and Gabe see each other and exchange a few glances. They get introduced better when a wedding guest has heart problems and Beth and Gabe step in to help him. Beth has only ever slept with her husband and hasn't been involved with anyone since his death. She's very attracted to Gabe but isn't sure about having a one night stand. Gabe is attracted to Beth in a major way and he finds that she's the first woman he can think about wanting without the guilt. After a little flirting and chatting, Gabe and Beth leave together and eventually end up in her hotel room. They agree to keep it at one night, no emotions and nothing further after the one night. I didn't really get why they both thought they needed to do this...maybe fear but it seems like they were both enjoying how alive they felt together so I didn't completely get it. None the less, Gabe and Beth spend a hot night together but also have some tender, sharing moments that make them both wish for more after the end of their one night. Unfortunately, Beth's fears run too deep for her to grasp on to the possibility of more with Gabe and it leaves the story in a bad place for a bit. Thankfully, Beth pulls her head out and puts things to rights with Gabe so they end the story starting towards a HEA together. This was an enjoyable story. I liked Gabe and thought he was a really good hero. I liked Beth but she hit a sore spot of mine...the heroine who lets fear rule her. She did come around though and I liked that...better late than never. :D
