Possessions (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

I had a lot of issues conserning this book. The first and most obvious one is the insta friendship around which the whole plot rolls around. If there weren't Lindsay's irritating desire to protect her new best friend Julie, who is really mean towards Lindsay most of the time, this book wouldn't have had more than 50 pages. She would just realize that she could fucking die for a stranger and go home.There. I said it. I feel much better now.The second thing that really made me see red was the fact how Lindsay ignored the ghost face she saw on every single thing she could see her reflection on. Who reacts like that?! I freak out for smaller things than that. The writing was alright most of the time, but there were the parts with the visions our main character sometimes had that just came out of the blue and honestly gave me troubles understanding what was going on.This was a really fine example of the first-book-in-a-series syndrom. That sums up all the bad things about this novel. On the other hand, even though the reasons Lindsay did what she did were stupid, the whole story was quite interesting and made me want to read more. I read most of this book at night and was honestly scared of turning off the lights. The creepy part was definitely there. The love triangle... well, I honestly hate love triangles, but this one wasn't that irritating, so that is for sure a plus.As from what I heard, the series gets better with time, so I am really hoping that's trueAll in all a 3 star read. I had such a hard time with this book...basically, I can't bring myself to believe in the characters or the situation. I know there's supposed to be some suspension of disbelief, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer feels a lot more real. The only characters I can even accept are Julie and Lindsay.Unfortunately, I couldn't put it down. I had to finish, and then read the second book. I'll certainly read the third. It's good...just not amazing.
