Pour Quelques Milliards Et Une Roupie (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was an easy read giving the reader a taste of India. Once I got stuck into the book I couldn't put it down. I thought I'd guessed the twist in the tale, but I was totally wrong, its great to have a story that I didn't manage to work out the ending. I haven't read any other books written by Vikas Swarup, or watched any of the films of his books, but after reading The Accidental Apprentice I will certainly be searching out more books by this author. Great book, I would highly recommend. The Accidental Apprentice is a novel about Sapna Sinha, who was selected by a rich tycoon, the owner of ABC Group, Vinay Mohan Acharya to be the CEO of the company. Sapna needed to accomplish 7 tests in order for her to succeed. Reading the synopsis of the novel, and knowing that I will have an adventurous 7 tests to explore, I thought that I will read a book about business secrets... something like Donald Trump always writes in his book, in a fiction way.But , it is not. The novel is so critical, it reveals, the identity of India; the beauty and the dark side of the South Asia's country. Sapna lives in Delhi with her mother, Susheela and her sister Neha, a narcissist. She has another younger sister, Alka, died in a suicide. His father passed away not long after that. Sapna was close to a guy named Karan, who happened to be her lover. He worked in a telecommunication company, named Indus Mobile. Sapna's agreement with Acharya to make her as the ABC Group CEO, and undergo the 7 tests should be confidential. But she told this matter to Karan. The first test was to test her leadership, when she survived a Khap marriage in a rural area in India. As a home appliances salesgirl, she was sent to the village to teach her customer how to use the electrical appliances. The appliances were bought by a rich farmer as a dowry of her daughter's wedding. The second test was to test Sapna's integrity. An actress, Priya Capoorr came to her workplace as an ambassador of a TV brand. In the launch, she revealed her engagement diamond ring. It was gone missing until Sapna found the ring. She returned the ring to Priya after a week. The third test was to test her courage when she solved a child labour crisis near the place she lived. The fourth test was to test her foresight when she revealed a blind singer who is not a good man after all. He was the mentor of Neha in a reality TV show and has the intention to exploit her physically. Sapna revealed the singer is not blind after all! This test actually shows the ugly side of the entertainment industry in India. The fifth test was to test Sapna's resourcefulness in handling corruption. This test elaborated well by the author that, corruption is regular in India. The sixth test was to test her decisiveness when she made the decision to donate her kidney to her sick mother. She was planning to buy a kidney, but after she observed the ugliness of the organ industry in India and how painful people can be by selling their organs, she refused to buy a kidney for her mom. The tests here are all based on real life events, that also reflect the social issues in India. I do not precisely elaborated the tests here in this review. It is for you to read the novel to know more. But wait. How about the seventh test? There was no seventh test. Because Vinay Mohan Acharya was murdered. Who murdered him? How he was murdered? Will Sapna become the CEO of ABC Group? Read the novel to find out more.Vikas Swarup crafted the novel really well. It is indeed a page turner. You cannot wait to finish it. Even though you stopped for moment from reading the novel, you still cannot wait to continue reading it. And while you are not reading the novel, you will always think about Sapna. That is how Swarup enchant you with his writing. You cannot stop asking yourself, what will happen to Sapna? Will she succeed in the test? Will she survive? (Your enemy could be someone that you love the most.)
