Pour Un Tweet Avec Toi (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I picked this book up at my local Dollar General after a few weeks of contemplating actually getting it. I am what you call a book hoarder, because I own more books than I have read, but while I am solving that issue by giving away the ones I have read, I still have quite a few to get rid of. Knowing that, I bought this one anyway.Usually I can name the one thing that catches my eye when I first see a book that I want to buy. Sometimes it is the cover, sometimes the blurb itself, and sometimes it is both. But in this case, neither was what truly goaded me into buying this. I knew I had to buy it the moment I opened the book to a random spot and began reading. The spot I had opened it to was a page of tweets between the two main characters. The moment I saw that, a small laugh almost erupted from me. I thought it was kind of cool. A book based on tweets. How neat. The story obviously does not start with tweets, but with an introduction to the main character. Abigail Donovan is an author who had a one-hit wonder years back, and who has been struggling ever since to finish her second novel with no luck. So when her publicist basically forces her to interact with her readers by making her a Twitter account, it seems like a hopeless endeavour. Until a man named Mark contacts her.Mark breaks down her walls little by little as the pages go by, and he makes her see herself and her writing in a whole new light. He teaches her the value of writing for herself instead of for others and shows her that she has so many more stories inside of her just waiting to come out into the open. This was an amazingly sweet book that made me laugh and feel a sadness too. It kind of taught me something as an aspiring author as well. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone willing to read it. It is phenomenal and did not disappoint. Goodnight Tweetheart is basically a love story but, first of all, it is a book about friendship and how to build a relationship without meeting each other. All along the book we follow the story of Abigail "Abby" Donovan, a successful author who has the "blank page syndrome". To help her, her agent subscribes on Twitter to have a contact with her fans but the problem is that Abigail does not know anything about Twitter. This is where she "met" Mark, a professor on sabbatical, who guesses that she is a "Twitter virgin" : he decides to help her, to teach her how to use Twitter. The thing that I found really interesting and original was the author’s writing style: around three quarters of the book is written as tweets cut by some narrative scenes from Abigail point of view. The fact that tweets are limited to one hundred and forty characters makes the book light-hearted and easy to read. It is emphasizes by the characters : both of them are fun and all their conversations begin and end by cinematographic references. The references at the beginning of their conversations are about main characters' outfits that reflect their mood of the day, and the references from the end of their conversations are the names of characters that have, for each other perspective, the same qualities as their partner.During all their exchanges on Twitter, they are in a seduction game, improvising virtual dates in places that Mark visits during his sabbatical like Paris or in a castle near to the Loire. But Mark did not told her all the truth about him and Abigail does not know how to react in front of Mark's revelations because she does not want to admit that she fell in love with a perfect stranger.I did not expect what Mark wanted to reveal to Abby : my first thought was that he was still married even if he told her he was divorced but it was not that ... AT ALL !!! When Abby decided to not talk to Mark anymore I was -really- crying and I found this situation so unfair to Mark : I Was angry against the all world !!!! But after those revelations, we can see how deep their relationship became. We could not have seen that before because of their continual jokes. At the end of my reading, I was full of hope about relationships and wanted to enjoy more my life, not hold any of my feelings before it's too late : that is what this book taught me. I was not disappointed at the end of this book because Teresa Medeiros, the author, let an open window to what will happen to Abby & Mark : everyone can imagine what they want about their future . For example, I imagine that they will still be together in twenty years but not necessarily married because, to me, their relationship is strong enough to get rid of the idea of marriage. This is what I like about books : it is not closed, the author gives us the characters, because we own them a little, and the fact that those characters are so light and funny reinforces that impression because they seemed to be draft along the story, that the author does not need to control her characters, that they want the story to be like this.To conclude, I can say that this book is full of hope, laughs and tears : it will give you all the emotions in three hundred pages and it is easy to read so don't miss such an opportunity to re-learn the meaning of life and joy.
