I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't one of my favorite books ever, but I'm glad I read it. I think the character development was really well done and I liked that we met so many people/paranormals in such a short amount of time. I also really liked that I never got confused between all the characters. What I really didn't like is that this book was a standalone, because there was so much still to be explored in this world and I was left still having a lot of questions. This book is very cut & dry and although I appreciated it, because it made following the book very easy, it was a little too clean and forced the story to be a standalone instead of a series like it deserved. I might have given this four stars if I hadn't figured out most of the surprise elements well before they were revealed. I'm one of those people that rarely knows "who done it" before the story explains it so this one ended up predictable. On the other hand, I enjoyed it, and when I finally got around to actually sitting down and reading the book I finished it in just a few hours. Also, it has a dragon. :)I guess it's supposed to be a paranormal romance? It doesn't read like a romance novel at all, the main character having a boyfriend and also another man interested in her does not a romance story make. It's an current era fantasy story; I hesitate to call it a police procedural because the police in question seem to have little in the way of actual procedures, leaving the newly elected county coroner to solve the case.I'll keep an eye out for the next book in the series.
What do You think about Precinct 13 (2012)?
I really liked this book, actually. I hope there's more in this category for Hallaway!
