From all the hype I'd heard about it, I expected it to be much better than it was. Maybe it was just me going in with high expectations, but I just didn't find it very good. The pacing was erratic, the art difficult to follow, and it kind of felt like a Sandman knock-off if I'm being honest. Even the art style felt similar. I don't know, the story was interesting enough, and there were a few interesting characters, but it just didn't do it for me. DeConnick and Rios craft an absolutely gorgeous story. Pretty Deadly is a Western with mystical and mythical elements. There's a lyricism to DeConnick's writing that's entrancing. Rios' art is stunning - beautiful work that's enhanced by Jordie Bellaire's colouring. Rios can make an eye being sliced look good. She's a master of motion - no one makes the pages move like she does. Even when characters are standing still, the panels move. Pretty Deadly is a masterpiece, definitely worth reading.

The story felt rushed and disjointed, but the illustrations!
