This is a review for all 12 volumes.I grew up watching the anime version of Sailor Moon. I have been enjoying watching Sailor Moon Crystal and the old episodes of Sailor Moon on Hulu. When I discovered that my local library had the manga, I had to read it. These books are so much fun and ridiculous. I will caution the prospective reader that the manga is a bit disjointed at times. The original anime did a much better job at character development than the manga. Even though the series is a bit silly, I can see myself rereading these books on an annual basis, because they are super easy to read and are quite enjoyable. The later volumes are a bit dark; however, for the most part, the series is fun and light. Through the power of love and friendship, evil will always be punished.I should note that towards the end of the series, Sailor Moon becomes a bit of a Messiah symbol, which feels a bit odd, but this is a fairly common trope. I love Sailor Moon a lot so this is a bit biased. I've always loved the ridiculous magic girl, savior of the world, true love conquers all, plot lines. I was really excited about them releasing new translations and editions. These new editions are bigger (nice!), however they cut out these little asides manga authors put in the marginalia! I'm so ticked! I have the first two volumes from the Tokyo Pop run and the marginalia are so much fun! My editions from Japan (a gift, I don't know/can't read Japanese) have these adorable notes and doodles from the writer, also my Japanese ones have fold out full color pages. I was seriously disappointed in the new editions.
