Primal Needs (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

Sidonie Wolf is a female vampire who wants more than the traditional protected life that is available. She has forged her way to an independent life, but the love of her life cannot be. Joe Bleythin is a werewolf and if she admits to love he will be killed. She erases his memory so that he will be safe. Why I picked it up: I like Sizemore's stories. A bit on the light side of vampire romances, but enjoyable. I was interested on how she would handle a romance with a female vampire lead. Why I finished it: I was worried there might be something that I needed to know in the next book of the series. (Although Sizemore is very good at right self-contained stories in each of her books.) This is book 7?! Why the merry mook was there so much damn "and this is how vampire society works!" BS in the beginning? Like if I amassed all the ubergeek exposition it would've come out to two of her itty-bitty chapters. And I skimmed those suckers because matriarchal societies that maintain all the trappings of patriarchy make my teeth hurt and really, let's be honest, I just wanted porn. (Honesty: makes life easier)It wasn't abysmal and she's obviously given this quite a bit of thought, somewhere along the lines of too much but there are some points I'd like clarified. Why does the matriarchy circumscribe the lives of female vampires FOR THEIR OWN GOOD? Not to be all hippy-dippy and yammering on about the sisterhood but wouldn't these old women know about their own abilities and whatnot? Or are vampire women weaker than vampire men and yet the vampire men defer to them because...they have reproducing uteruses??I know, this frustration is all self-inflicted because what sort of moron goes and does a feminist reading of a vampire-werewolf romance? But still, if even supernatural women have to sneak around and work the system, it shows a distinct lack of imagination for women TODAY. I don't care if she is or isn't a feminist, Sidonie (what sort of spelling is that?? oh right, VAMPIRE) is strong and amazing in all sorts of ways and yet... *sigh* One step forward, two steps back.

What do You think about Primal Needs (2008)?

I was dissappointed skimmed through ALOT of the book. Rarely have to do that with this author.
