Promise You Won't Tell? (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I downloaded this book because it it was free and I was looking for a good mystery on the kindle store. I didn't particularly get along with the style if writing at first but the story seemed promising so I carried on.Dani Ripper is a detective, but doesn't really come across as one. She's a young female who talks like the experience she doesn't have. She helps a college student by investigating a molestation case free of charge, because she is conveniently a fellow former victim. The story was predictable. Without the setup there would have been no drama and the case would have been solved by Dani and her assistant with no hiccups. It was more sexual than mysterious, with multiple references to boobs and a flashback to a gay experience Dani had. It seems to be a very male way of turning rape charges on their head by blaming women and being detrimental. The story was a quick and enjoyable read but there was not much substance overall. Riley Freeman turns up in Dani Ripper's (Private Investigator) office claiming something happened to her at a sleepover at friend's house & requests Dani's help.So Dani investigates with help of friends & along the way it's revealed she was hostage rape victim. She makes light of it constantly, talks about sex all time to clients & says so many inappropriate things to them as well.Story itself was so overcomplicated when there was no need for it to be. The males were evil wee creatures & seems the moral of the story is throwing money at a problem is the solution with no justice whatsoever.Dialogue was boring, was crude in places & there's no way professionals would talk to clients in derogatory terms like Dani was always doing. "Hey, I was a hostage rape victim but it's okay, I have blonde hair & big boobs!" Most of the time it was like reading a screenplay.Did not enjoy this at all & will not be reading the rest of the series.
