Backing up, she spied Essie curled up on the sofa, one eye open as he quizzed her. “Whoa, you scared me!” “I would have thought that by now you would have been used to my appearance.” “Haha, very funny. I just assumed you would be fast asleep too.” She watched as he jumped off the sofa and stretched, running his paws over the scratching post. “Mind if I join you? Not for running or anything silly of that sort, but I wouldn’t mind a morning stroll around Burton Hall.”
