Purple Heart Purple heart is about a solider named Matt who woke up in a hospital and has no clue how we got there. Purple Heart takes place in a Iraq hospital. The novel begins when Matt wakes up on a hospital bed and has a major headache. Matt is a solider in the U.S. Army. When Matt wakes up, his vision is very fuzzy. He realizes his best friend Justin is right next to him. Justin is a cool guy who kicks butt. Justin is also in the same squadron ad Matt. Matt asks Justin how he got in the hospital and what happened to his head. This book is filled with chills and had a major plot twist! I liked this book because its filled with actual events. you see in first person of what a solider goes through. My favorite part of the book was when everything goes boom. that's when you really see when matt is in action. This book was truly amazing.it left me frozen and thirsty for more! I would recommend this book to people who have thoughts about joining the military or just to people who are interested in war. there is a pretty sick part in the book. a kid dies but the way he does is pretty cruel. The book itself it pretty graphic. I would recommend this book for anyone who likes mystery or war books. However, this book has some foul language. Generally, I would recommend it for teenagers due to this language. I really enjoyed reading this book and once you start reading, it is hard to stop. I extol the author of this book. This book is about a young man in the army named Matt Duffy. Matt was deployed in Afghanistan when he got Traumatic Brain Injury from an incident during the chaos of a gunfight. While Matt is in the hospital, he keeps having a vision of being in an alleyway behind an overturned car. As he looks down the alley, he sees a boy from the village he was in. The boy's name is Alli. In the vision, Alli is lifted into the air and begins flailing his arms around. He continues to be lifted until all Matt can see are the bottoms of Alli's shoes. Matt tries to piece together what this vision means and if it will help him figure out how he got injured. One day, Matt gets a visit from his buddy, Justin. Matt asks Justin how he was injured. Justin says that they were on guard duty and a taxi drove past the checkpoint, so they chased after it. Then the people got out and ran down an alley on foot so they got out of their Humvee and pursued. When they got into the alley, they immediately came under insurgent fire. They then ducked into the closest building and took out the insurgents. After they were sure it was clear, the left the building and an RPG came and hit the wall behind them. That is what Justin told Matt. However, Matt questions if that may just be a cover story to protect him. If an RPG had hit the wall after they exited, why was only he injured and not Justin? I think that Matt is a logical man for trying to piece together what happened to him to give him the injury. However, I also think that he is afraid of the truth, and also of being in Afghanistan in general anymore. It must have added to his worries that he cannot figure out what happened to him because he cannot remember what happened to him. He also cannot decipher what his vision means. I would say that this book is a realistic fiction book. It is based on a true event, however, the characters in it are made up. A book that I have read that is vaguely similar to Purple Heart, is Fallen Angels, by Dean Myers. I have not read too many other books like this one.
What do You think about Purple Heart (2009)?
This book shows you the true effects war can have on you and is a good and quick read.
