This is book two in the Days of Redemption series, continuing the the story of the Kiem's, a New Order Amish family, who we first "met" in Daybreak, book one. This time, the focus is on Roman, a 23 year old man who is vacationing in Pinecraft, Florida, to take a break from all of the family drama back home. While he is there, he meets Amanda, a young widow who is also Amish, raising her 4 year old daughter Regina alone since her husband Wesley passed away from cancer two years ago. Amanda doesn't want to live the rest of her life alone, but she's not ready to let go of the past, but she begins to change her mind when she meets Roman, and the two become friends, and even Regina overcomes her shyness around strangers and bonds with Roman also. They both consider a future together, but Amanda doesn't feel ready to leave Pinecraft, and her memories of Wesley, and Wesley's family behind, and Roman has obligations in Ohio that prevent him from moving to Florida; will they find a way to overcome those obstacles?I enjoyed this story, even though I could predict how Amanda's and Roman's story would end, I still enjoyed the gentle romance of it. It also continued Viola's story from Daybreak, and we learn more of the family secrets that were opened up in the first book.I am looking forward to the third and last book of the series, Eventide, which focuses on Roman's and Viola's sister Elsie, who is losing her sight to an eye disease. It was just released though, so I am going to wait awhile until I can get it at a reduced price. (I don't use the library here because it is very inconvenient for me to get to.) Roman vacations in Florida and meets a young widow with a daughter, Vlola prepares for her trip to Belize while her father is still in rehab and grandfather Aaron reveals to the family that he had been married before and lost his first wife and child in an accident. This seemed-to-be-normal family has been in an uproar since grandma revealed she had been born English in the first book of this series. The family gets stronger as it deals with each secret and event. The editor and author made a few mistakes. On pages 152 and 153 did Roman have the buggy or a van? On page 192 "Everything in Roman's body...(it should be Edward). Then on page 235 "I kept it secret for twenty years...(but it should be 40 years as they refer to on the next page).262 pages
