Reaching Rachel (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

5 Stars Reviewed by MelissaThis is one of my favorite books of all time. Rachel is one of the best female characters I have read and I felt everything she was going through. LL Collins truly did her homework for this book. Devin is a great male lead character as well. The plot is not an easy one to get through due to the content but the story is one that has to be told. The story is definitely for mature audiences and will tug at the reader deeply. I loved that the characters from book one were back as supporting characters for this book. I loved this book and truly cannot wait for more from LL Collins. I purchased this book in February and am kicking myself for not reading it sooner. This is the story of Rachel and Devin. The book is a romantic suspense novel and not for the faint of heart. There are bouts of violence that are described in fairly graphic detail. I think the fact that L.L. went into such detail makes the story that much more real.Devin and Rachel were together when they were younger before a huge misunderstanding tore them apart. Flash forward five years and both of them are merely existing not really being the best versions of themselves. Taking what they can get because it is what they both think they deserve. Rachel becomes involved with a man who quickly becomes abusive. My heart broke for Rachel as she was attacked. Enter Devin, sweet, sexy Devin. He is a hero in every sense of the word. A cop that fights the good fight and will do anything to protect the woman he loves. After her attack, Rachel and Devin are attached at the hip! I love that he is so protective and dutiful in taking care of her as she is healing. I liked that we could see how much progress Rachel was making, not just physically but mentally as well. She was able to swallow her fear and go support another victim. That scene alone about broke my heart. No one should have to suffer through that but to go and let yourself be the shoulder for someone else who has been through the same thing...strong woman. Our couple struggles with putting their past behind them but they find a way to do it. They battle their demons together, face their issues and come out stronger on the other side. There are threats coming at them from all sides and they will both do whatever they can to keep the other safe. I love the last twist that was thrown in there as well. One of the things I absolutely love about this series is that all the characters have a great support system. The people we fell in love with in Living Again, Ben and Kayley (and their brood of kids) play a part in this book as well. All questions that were raised were wrapped up in a happily ever after bow!
