This book just didn't do much for me. The main concept is interesting -- Spartan soldiers turned into immortal demon-fighters. Very strong similarities to the Dark-Hunter series, but that's nothing new these days. So if the Dark-Hunters are your cup of tea, you may want to give this book a try. For me, though, the story didn't come together. The main characters were only so-so in my opinion, and only one of the supporters stood out as interesting future reading material. Most of all, I think it was the author's writing style that I didn't care for; I just didn't find it engaging. I read the first third of the book faithfully, then skimmed the remaining chapters and called it good. Ajax Petrakos is an immortal 2500 year old Spartan warrior whose job it is to protect mankind. Shay Angel is a mortal modern woman, whose family just happen to be demon hunters. They meet in beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery when Shay is being turned into a stature by a demon. These are the principal character in this action filled novel of good guys vs. evil guys. Ajax and Shay are charged with locating an ancient mirror with mystical properties, but so is Ajax’s worst enemy. “Red Fire” is the first book in the series Gods of Midnight and I freely admit the fact that the book is set in Savannah, GA is one of the reasons I wanted to read it. I was not disappointed if you like action with your romance you will enjoy this book.
