Filled with carefully-chosen words--a good thing since there are so few of them, but oh, how perfectly those words mimic the sounds of crunching through the snow ["scrinch scrunch scrinch scrunch scrinch scrunch" (unpaged)]--this delightful picture book follows the adventures of several animals who take a red sled for a night ride after it's been left outside. The pencil and watercolor illustrations show the tracks of the animals and their glee as they slide down a snowy hill. The font size changes from page to page, allowing an enormous "Whoa" (unpaged) to fill one left-hand page completely while the right-hand page shows the gleeful terror of two sled riders. Like me, young readers will be captivated by the brief but expressive text and the illustrations with just touches of red representing the sled throughout the book. Wonderfully creative and imaginative, this picture book somehow manages to capture the experience of a sled red gone wrong perfectly. It's a perfect read aloud for wintery months. Nearly wordless picture book that incorporates lots of fun sounds. After a little girl goes to sleep, some animals decide to take her red sled out for a spin. Really beautiful illustrations (2x2 list!), and lots of potential for silliness.Really nice drawn illustrations give this book a joyous and bursting with fun feel without being super in-your-face with colors or crowding the page. This might be a good story time book for baby time? It's pretty short, and would be a good opportunity to model reading behavior for parents.
Loved this, beautifully illustrated and wonderful to share together.
