Good book to learn or review the basics. Gave me some new insights and reassurances from my own experiences. Gave me some ideas for future runs/training. Great opportunity to have input from some of the great runners in the ultra community when they aren't always accessible to us otherwise. This book won't make you a good or great ultra runner. That's what your running shoes, trails and your own relentless forward progress are for. I swear this book's pages are now painted neon yellow! I have plowed through this thing with a highlighter and started reading it a few months ago when I wanted to train for my first ultra and have since finished both and feel like I have gained a new perspective on life as well as learned so much. I didn't know any ultra runners before I read this and reading it was like having someone sit down and go over the ropes with you. I have had the pleasure of meeting some ultra runners since and I have to say that this book is a gem of info regardless of whether you run ultras or marathons. There is a vast amount of crossover information that is applicable at any distance over a 10K, really. This is one of those books every runner should have in their library. Period.
Great introduction to all facets of ultrarunning - love the title sets the scene for the whole book.
