He opened the door to my apartment, put his book bag down, and wrapped his arms around me, kissing me from behind. “How was your day, babe?” he asked. “Lonely without you.” I pouted. He laughed and leaned against the counter. “I spoke with Dr. Benjamin today.” “Who’s that?” I asked. “He’s a neurosurgeon who teaches a class at the university. He wants to see you. He said he might be able to help you.” “Sam, I’ve been to see so many doctors and no one has any answers.” He grabbed my waist, pulling me closer to him. “Look, it doesn’t hurt to talk to him. I’ll be with you, so you don’t have to be nervous.” A warmness crept inside me. It meant the world to me that Sam wanted to help me and I didn’t want to set him up for disappointment. But, I couldn’t refuse his help because it meant so much to him.
