Riding Desire: Alpha Bad Boy Bikers (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
Oh my holy mother of orgasm god!! What the hell do you say about a set of books that almost literally had me melting in my chair? I loveeeeed this boxes set.... So much so that my husband reaped ALL the benefits(teehee) I'm a huge fan of Avery Aster so it was a given I'd love her contribution.... I found a ton of new authors that i have one clicked and had to deactivate security measures of my credit card... Go buy it now! Promise you won't be disappointed! Where the individual titles were listed in GR separately, I left specific ratings for only those stories. My rating for the entire set as a whole/average is 3 stars. The stories in this collection, for me, ranged from DNF to probably 4 stars. Anthologies or boxed sets, I know, are a way for readers to get a taste of new to them authors. I at least usually buy a boxed set if contains a story by an author I usually like, and that was the case here. Given this set was 99 cents when I purchased it, I knew it would get value from my 99 cents even if I only liked one story or two. That was pretty much what happened. But I have been introduced in the past to new authors via boxed sets, so was going into each story with an open mind and hope of finding a new gem of an author. I was a bit disappointed in that regard honestly, but that is okay. What did bother me was that several of these were cliffhangers, one in very particular. I can understand a novella being a part of a series by an author or an add-on to known characters, but what I can't understand is the novella being nothing more than an extended length teaser or intro with needing to buy the "real" story separately at a later time once it's published. I'm disturbed by that trend in this set. Also, a couple of these stories had glaring errors, one example being the heroine talking about being stronger in her "wolf form," except she was a leopard and the hero was a panther. There was no wolf shifter even in the story. In another, the heroine and hero were in a bar with other bikers, all named, and suddenly a new name pops up that is clearly not the name of anyone present in this novella. On checking, it appears to be a character from other works by the author, but again that character was not present in this novella. I can understand a few typos or errors in a story, but those were really glaring and left a lasting impression of perhaps carelessness. It yanked me from the flow of the story totally. In several cases, this was my first introduction to a particular author, and I wasn't left with a great impression. Maybe that is indeed abnormal for an otherwise meticulous author, sure, but for me personally that will likely be my only purchase of works by that author as that is all I have to go on as a representative work sample. So, my overall rating is 3 stars, a few selections pulling up the rating for me, but some DNF for me and lower ratings in the individual books.
