I thought that the book Rikers Island by Paul Volponi was an amazing peice of literature. The realistic fiction blew my mind. I felt like I was there and could picture the whole story in my head like a 3-D movie. I would recommend this book to anyone who has been to jail or had friends/ family that were in jail. This story will really give you a reality check on your life with the way people are treated on Rikers Island. this book is one of the best books i have ever read its a story about a kid who goes to juvie on Rikers Island he gets cut and is sent to another part of an island .there he has to go to school and meats new people and new co's. he makes a friend by giving him a nick name ritz he talks about ritz being the only white kid in jail he starts geting along more with his romeate sanchez. he also meats brick the guy with the story and in charge of the phones. 40 is the main characters nick name by the way so the story goes on with school school i thought that was boring by the way. some funny stuff hapend at the school tho sanchez ows brick money they come up with the hanging plan he kills himself 40 has to clean out his stuff brick trys to take some 40 hits him. well by the end 40 finds the guy that cut him but didint kill him just cuse he learnd over this hole time about the traps and holes and he also said how would his mom feel.well by the end end were thers like 3 pages left he is left out and says only if the judge new what we go through. this is an amazing book
