Robert Ludlum's The Ares Decision (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
Covert - One. An agency so secret that only the President knows it exists. In fact, he organized it and asked his closest advisor, Fred Klein, to run it. When no one else can handle an explosive global situation, you send in Covert - One.An American special forces team is sent into northern Uganda to find and eliminate a known terrorist. Instead the group is decimated by a group of normally peaceful farmers. Video of the attack shows even women and children possessing almost supernatural speed and strength, consumed with a rage that makes them immune to pain, fear, and all but the most devastating injuries.Legends regarding such attacks on other groups abound, but what is the cause. The chief of Iranian Intelligence is looking for an answer. If he can find the source, can he turn it into a weapon against the west? To prevent this, army microbiologist Colonel Jon Smith, a top Covert - One operative, is sent to investigate the attack and find the cause. He and his team are ambushed and cut off from all outside support just as they begin to suspect that other forces besides the Iranians are in play, as well. As the action runs towards a global conflict Jon Smith and his team try to contain the outbreak, bring the guilty to justice, and sometimes just get out alive. A typical Ludlum-style thriller. Non-stop action. For fans of Ludlum, they will not be disappointed. In northern Uganda a team of American Special Forces are destroyed by agroup of normally peaceful farmers. Videos of the attack show woman and children with super human strength. Covert One's top operative Lt Col.Jon Smith is sent to investigate the attack. He finds evidence of aparasitic infection that for years has been causing violent insanity andthen going dormant. This time though the parasite has been kept alive andcrully transmitted into acts of terrorism. The director of Iranian Intelligenceis in Uganda trying to obtain this weapon to unleash on the West. Smithand his team are ambushed and cut off from all outside support justas they begin to suspect that forces more powerful than the Iraniansare in play, forces that can be traced right to the heads in Washingtonitself. This is a good story and a real thriller. To me it seems that if they continue to use writers like this Ludlum will be around for a long time.
What do You think about Robert Ludlum's The Ares Decision (2011)?
A far stretch for a parasite. More like a virus. Entertaining, but. Of my usual genre.

An exciting tale of good people gone wrong and bad people gone totally evil.
