After reading some reviews I was prepared for a complete and total let down. And perhaps because I was looking for something horrific I did not hate the book as much as anticipated. But I regret that the book was not what it was. What an interesting world we were brought into. The idea of the Grisha (although I kept getting their powers confused - do they actually get to choose or do they just have aptitude for different things?) was really great. The world was interesting, although I don't feel like I really got to know any of the neighboring kingdoms - just that they wanted to swallow each other up. I'm going to conclude that the author was rushed by publishers to push out a story, and that's why it ended up less than satisfying. YA authors especially seem to be pushed to put out one novel a year, and while I'm happy that I don't have to wait too long to read the next book in a series I think it's pushing authors too hard to pump out books and not create novels. This book was a roller coaster of emotions.i found that this book truly pushed all the characters to their physical and emotional limit.I am sorry but i have to point out that ever since the first book i have hated mal.i still hate him, is it just me or does he get more annoying by each page. he just never stops complaining ant 'trying to do the right thing' which makes me hate him more, to me he should have been more bad ass and a little less emotional, i mean don't get me wrong yes i like a sensitive guy in a book. but only when the situation calls for it, and Mal to me is always sensitive which gets me annoyed. The darkling, i've always had a soft spot for him . i know he is evil , but to me he is internally good. this book truly showed us all the sides the darkling hadAlina gets really annoying through out the book because she makes some choices which i wish she had done differently but over all i feel as if she has grown on me through out the trilogy , i remember i used to think she was really annoying and weak minded.but now she has transformed into a strong sarcastic person who most look up to and i'm very surprised.Overall Honestly this book is exceptional and pulls you in until the very endi want to congratulate the author for creating such a great series and i hope she keeps on writing more books like it because she has an amazing gift.
