Dare's brother Bradshaw has become disillusioned with military life and questions his decision to continue as captain of his ship. He is given the task of leading an expedition where plant and animal specimens will be collected from Pacific islands. This is a chance for Shaw to discover if he should leave his career while at a crossroads. He is insulted by the botanist's daughter when he admits he doesn't read much. Zephyr dismisses him as a barbarian and challenges Shaw at every opportunity. Their bantering becomes fun most of the time and they sizzle when together. Zephyr is plain speaking and When a bunch of aristocrats hitch a ride Shaw worries that gossip about her unsophisticated behavior will follow her to London. While he tries to guide her actions, they begin to respect each other and become friends all while he is openly trying to seduce her. Zephyr has had amazing opportunities sketching, and assisting her father for years without thinking about her own wants and desires. She is a breath of fresh air like her name. Bradshaw is sexy-cute and the Tahitian backdrop adds adventure to book 3 in this series. You can read this without having read the previous books.I am becoming a fan of Suzanne Enoch's lighthearted historical romances. 3rd in Adventure's series, but also a "follow-up" to another series. Captain Bradshaw Carraway has lost his zest for the sea after a battle where he lost his best friend. His next assignment takes him to Austrailia and a botantist and his daughter to seek out new finds for England. Before they set off, he is also stuck with a bunch of spoiled members of the ton who had been stuck. Adventure, islanders and of course romance... Liked it very much.
This book is like Master and Commander meets Pride and Prejudice. And I love it.
