I had recently read Feather's Bride Trilogy, and these are considerably older books, having been published in the late 1990s. I enjoyed them but the rather juvenile heroines had their limits. In this one, published in 2010, the heroine is only ten months shy of 21 and far more mature and independent than the heroines in the previous books. The likelihood that the mistress of a nunnery would allow a lovely young lady to rent a room as a lodger and make no efforts to recruit her needs to be taken on blind faith. That improbability aside, it was a fun read and I hope to get the subsequent books in the series. The story got off a nice start; I liked the characters and the circumstances of Jasper and Clarissa's relationship is intriguing. The thing that really annoyed me is that Clarissa never told Jasper the truth; he had to hear them from someone else. It then seems unreasonable that he wasn't angry with her. Also, I thought the ending was too rushed and their professions of love was too abrupt and lacking.
I found some parts very unbelievable. But overall, a light read.
