My least favorite volume so far. The final battle with Queen Beryl dragged over from the last volume and went through about the first half of this volume. It was interesting getting the back story on Silver Millennium. Once that's over and done with, we are immediately introduced to Chibi-Usa, who is even more obnoxious that I could have anticipated. Not only are we stuck with a brattier, whinier version of our heroine, everyone pretends like they can't figure out who she is. I mean, despite looking like an identical version of Usagi, having the same name and having an identical silver crystal...none of these folks can figure out that she's Sailor Moon's daughter from the future. The worst part is that Chibi-Usa KNOWS all this and proceeds to act like an asshole to her proto-mom and basically hit on her proto-dad. Ewwwwww NO. (Also, I just need to mention that Mamoru has a Tuxedo Mask doll. WHY?) I woke up late and to help myself get up I read this. Just perfect. Beautiful art, complex characters and a great story. In this issue, the end of what's known as the 'classic' series of the anime finishes, and the Black Moon Clan are introduced. Chibiusa drops in and the extent of Venus's power as a leader is shown. In comparison to the anime, it moves much quicker of course and there are more variations in transformations. There are subtleties in language that the translator explains at the end but there are still errors 'Spark Ring Wide Pressure' made me laugh for instance (it's 'sparkling' but the katakana for spark ring and sparkling would be exactly the same, so understandable, but still funny) Looking forward to reading the next one. :3
