Sailor Twain Ou La Sirène Dans L'Hudson (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
I will start by saying I got a signed copy of this book through the giveaways. This book was interesting for me to rate and review, as I have never read a graphic novel until now and I think (based on having read only one graphic novel) that I might prefer the details of a more traditional novel. Also, I have no idea how this one compares to others. Therefore, take my review with a grain of salt...I will say that I found the plot very interesting. It was hard for me to truly connect with the characters (hence the loss of a star), as I am used to the more in depth picture painted in a more typical book, but I found the main ones to draw me into their plight. The story was very interesting and I would have loved to know more about what happens later. I think perhaps it would be better if there was a little more depth given to the story and characters (which lost it a star), but I wonder if perhaps that is something that is characteristic to graphic novels. The illustrations were nicely done. Simple enough to understand quickly, but detailed enough that you can get the message being conveyed fully.Over all, I think this was an engaging book and I do not regret reading it. The three stars are simply due to personal preference. But for what it is, I did enjoy this story. The art in this graphic novel was beautiful. I loved how precise it could be at one moment, and then how blurred the lines would become when needed. I haven't read too many graphic novels, but what I really loved about this one was that you didn't know every single thing the main character (Sailor Twain) was thinking. There were many pictures that would show you what he was doing. It was fun imagining the thoughts that were going though his head during the pictures. The book was a little slow to start, but it picked up quickly, and I couldn't put it down near the end. The ending...was surprising to say the least. I definitely want to reread it in the future.I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
What do You think about Sailor Twain Ou La Sirène Dans L'Hudson (2013)?
Interesting use of a mermaid seemingly so real in the lives of famous people…Twain and others.

I enjoyed the historic period and the charcoal like graphic quality. A small story in some ways.
