Samael's Fire (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

So glad I got this for free on kindle. I almost didn't finish it, I was so bored. Although I could totally buy into the earth being destroyed ecologically in the way described and companies taking over everything, there was nothing else about the world the author built and the characters that was believable to me. Yes, the book leaves me with questions, but I don't care enough about the answers to keep reading any other books in the series. This story was an OK read. I liked the characters for the most part and the plot was interesting until about 2/3 of the way through. Then it got a little weird. What was a good sci-fi story at first turned into some weird story about people being talked to by goddesses and having visions and deciding to follow this goddess. It was strange and it kind of ruined the story for me. Luckily I got this book and the next one for free. If I had paid for this story, I would be a little annoyed. The characters are good and the plot was good up to that point. It's a post-apocalyptic story but then it has this weird goddess thing on top that didn't do much for me. I would have preferred a good old sci-fi story with action and awesome characters. I will be reading the next book, but I am not expecting anything amazing. Overall 3 out of 5 stars.
