Since her passion was landscapes, the trip down the east coast provided a fountain of glorious scenes: rolling hills, tree lined country lanes, lakes and rivers that shone like mirrors at sunset and sunrise. Not since her college art teacher had encouraged her to pick up a brush had she had such enthusiasm to apply her brushes on canvas. Derrick continually encouraged her, lending her confidence in her talent, and she came to value his support and criticism as much as the sexual education he was giving her. Of course, his slow traveling had as much to do with furthering her education in submission as it did with encouraging her art work. The first day after leaving New York, she had been eternally grateful for the frequent stops as she was having a great deal of difficulty sitting. Derrick had ignored her discomfort, but he wasn’t angry with her any more for which she was thankful. It was the first day since she had met him that they hadn’t had sex. His thoughtfulness only made her feel worse.
