Drake Donovan has been in several of the earlier books. He was injured badly and can't shift. He worked for Jake on the Texas ranch. Now Jake has sent him to Louisiana to find out what is going on with some land he owns in the swamp. Saria Boudreaux is the one who contacted Jake anonymously about the problems. And she is Drake's guide into the swamp. This set seems to have lots of drug runners in it. And lots of people from corrupted bloodlines who can't shift but have all these aggressive tendencies from their shifter heritage. The biggest problem I have with the whole set is: the Leopard ppl are a separate species, but they can mate with humans. It just seems so inconsistent. Joshua is one of the leopards on the team. He is originally from this group. But there are some serious issues with this pack. And Drake ends up having to challenge the leader. Savage Nature is the fifth story in the Leopard series from Christine Feehan. It isn’t necessary to read the previous books in this series to enjoy Savage Nature, but for a better understanding, I would suggest that you do read them. The protagonists in this story are Saria Boudreaux and Drake Donovan. I was quite excited to read this book as Drake has been mentioned in at least three of the previous books. We start with Saria in the swamp looking to take some pictures of a nest of baby owls. After taking one or two pictures she hears a man scream, then the sounds of a leopard. After waiting some time to make sure the cat is gone, she goes looking for the screaming man but only finds a body. We fast forward six months and there have been more attacks. Saria has brothers who are all leopards and have become increasingly protective of her. In an attempt to get help with the attacks, shes gives a letter to the local pastor to send out. On her way home she is attacked and wounded by a leopard, but tells no one of the attack. A short while later Drake arrives in the town and realizes that quite a few of the residents are leopards and that Saria is close to her first change. I liked Savage Nature quite a bit as we got to see how a group of leopards live outside the rain forest and how bad the lair can get without proper leadership. I think my favorite character in this book was Drake. While I did love how independent Saria was, we also got to see Drake in his element once again after what had happened to him in one of the previous books. We also got to meet the other leopards of the lair which means we will eventually get to read their stories. I did love the ending to this one, I felt it tied all of the subplots together nicely. I would suggest this book to anyone that enjoys romance or paranormal romance.
