Savagery (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

this has been on my wish list for ages, and I gave in and bought it, and I wasn't disappointed!Cherine is 18, a peasant in France. her life is dull and meaningless and all about survival. Eric and Rolf are Vikings, and they raid Cherine's coastal village, killing everyone and taking her captive. Eric is allowed to "break her in" for Rolf, but his feelings grow and he finds it difficult when Rolf claims Cherine as his own. although Rolf does "allow" Eric to join in just the once, Eric hates himself for betraying Cherine in the worst possible way.plotting behind the scenes to leave France and return to Norway, things take a turn for the worst when Rolf decides to punish Cherine for looking at Eric, and he offers her to the rest of his men.there is sex, a lot, a single M/F/M scene. the Vikings are well known as savage in their violence, and no true Viking novel would be complete with out it.there is also some truth in the legend of Rolf.this book does not have the ending I was expecting! it did seem to end suddenly, and that why it got 4 stars and not 4.5. I will keep a look out for any other books by this author, too :-) Beautifully written and very erotic, the viking were fierce and savage and the plot was interesting. The three main characters were engaging and I am honestly surprised at how wonderful the story was. Cherine was a little Mary sue but i gave her benefit of the doubt considering the era she was living in. Erik damn was he one sensual viking, i had no complaints about him NONE! Then there was Rolf Emma Mackenzie can sure write a disgusting and shudder worthy Bastard, he actually make's me feel physically sick.If your looking for a fluffy erotic viking book turn away now because this was hard to read at some points, which confused me as in how to review this sure their are some highly erotic scenes but also some seriously disturbing one that will probably haunt me for a while. And what can i say about the ending,it was unexpected, moving and beautiful. This is not your typical historical erotica this was romantic and sorrowful with an intelligent insight to a primal civilization, where war and violence is common ground.I highly recommend this to anyone who seriously enjoys reading about the true nature of plundering vikings.
