Savin' Me (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I noticed that I've been reading books w the same formula lately. Characters putting up walls around them and running away at the first sign of the L word. I'n just lucky that they've been quite good, and this one is part of that bunch. The characters are easy to like and even those who are not so likeable felt real. I could somehow relate myself to Kat. She's a strong woman and definitely knows what she wants but at the same time, finds herself wanting to prove her worth to people who doesn't appreciate her. I read this first book in the Heat Wave series in one day people-I NEVER accomplish this feat! Granted, I was a captive audience on a 3-hour flight, but I was hooked from page one. I bonded with the characters from the first introductions, and their "goals, motivations & conflicts" became my own. Yes, it helped that I had just returned from a trip from the location where the story took place, and it made me love the book all the more. There were many points in the story where I got so caught up in events that I seriously wanted to smack the crap out of certain characters-always a good sign that the writer has successfully been able to set me deeply into the world she created. There was even a major turn of events toward the end where I thought, "NOOOOO! You DIDN'T just go there-OMG!" That one twist told me that the author was not afraid to "torture" her characters for the sake of the storyline. Kudos to her! The heroine Kat was completely relatable, and the hero Eric was so lovable. It was easy to bond to "player" Eric once his painful secret was revealed. I love redemption stories, and it was easy to commiserate with his conflict as he struggled to resist the very thing he needed to heal and move forward from a past trauma, Kat's unconditional love. Kudos to Alannah Lynne for creating a well-crafted story and a quick read. I can't wait to devour the rest of the book in her series, especially after becoming acquainted with the other fabulous characters who are waiting-and most deservedly so-for their own HEAs.
