Emotionally gripping book...abuse tears at the soul...no light in the dark...this book enables us to see the light...very powerful...watching Amy suffer was immensely difficult to read...Richard may have saved Amy but Amy saved Richard too...book of redemption, rebirth, the power of love and the human spirit...I am extremely impressed with this author again...he work amazes me...her subject matter is intense and moving...it gets your attention...she certainly had mine!! 454 pagesStand aloneSPOILERISHI'm not into longish novels anymore but the reviews egged me on to give this one a go. And...whew some heavy dark stuff going on right from the get go.When we meet Amy she's a broken self destructive mess of hard drugs, indiscriminate sex and self mutilation. When Richard finds her collapsed outside his condo, he's attracted to her and intrigued by the sadness lurking in her eyes but Amy's a closed book and with good reason, he fixes her up and she returns home to the horror that awaits her. When they finally meet again a couple of months later Amy has just tried to end her life and she’s in the hospital emergency room where Richard is the attending doctor who on examining her comes to a few frightening conclusions of his own and tries to get her professional help from a colleague, his ex Joanna who naturally has an agenda of her own. Ugly twists and turns, lovely twists and turns.I loved Amy. I've read countless heroines who go through much less trauma and don't have half - no - quarter of this girls backbone. Just a couple of things. I doubt the book would have suffered had it been a little shorter. I know this because I found myself skimming a few times which I will only do if there's some drag nor do I like seemingly excessive begging/pleading in women or men, once or twice I'll get over it but more than that is too desperate and clingy.Nonetheless it was raw, gritty, heart-wrenching and almost impossible to believe any person can come out of an experience like this without losing their sanity.
What do You think about Saving Amy (2000)?
Plot was not that powerful as I expected it to be.
