A pretty good short romance read. I liked this story about Ella and Jax. Two people who had been through a lot in life and had to learn to let go of their pasts in order to move on with the future. Ella was amazingly strong and I admired her character - she was still fighting after years of abuse and four years running from her stepfather. I thought her jumpy nature and panic attacks were a realistic response after all she had been through and was honestly surprised she didn't suffer from worse things. I really liked the way Ella was able to read people and see their true feelings in their eyes - I think it gave her interactions with other characters in the story a lot more significance. Jax was also really good. I liked the way he wanted to do all he could to help his mother with her shelter for women but had to learn to accept that sometimes even everything we can give still isn't enough - however that doesn't me we don't keep trying. Jax and Ella's relationship was a bit of an insta-love thing and developed really quickly - I didn't mind but I know some people find that really annoying and unrealistic. Overall - a pretty good read. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a sweet new adult romance read and don't mind some darker undertones, namely abuse and violence towards women. It pains me to know there are people that actually live this book as their reality. Kirsty has done a wonderful job in making the story feel so real. I felt all the emotions Ella was dealing with. And Jax, what more could you ask for in a man.And the last quote sums up everything - “Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one’s definition of your life.”
4.5 stars - this author is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Loved.
