This is the second book in this series, and it was just as good as the first, unlike the majority of film sequels. I like holiday mysteries, and this murder takes place on Halloween. Mattie is trying to get closer to Detective Hurley while trying to solve the case. I admit, I did skip ahead to the end, so I knew who the killer was before finishing the book. However, I was surprised by the fact that the killer just suddenly appeared, before Mattie could make any connections to who the killer was. So, in a way, who the killer turned out to be surprised me. I just finished Scared Stiff by Annelise Ryan. It's a very quirky little cozy mystery, with a splash of romance and a huge serving of humor. Mattie is the deputy coroner who helps the chief of police solve a crime. It's the second in the series. I give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. It gets extra credit for the humor (man, Mattie's one-liners come out of left field sometimes) and it loses a little credit for believability (some of the situations she gets into just make me shake my head). All in all, a quick fun read - and a terrific cover!
