Scaredy Squirrel Has A Birthday Party (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Scaredy Squirrel plans a solo birthday party for himself. He decides to take the risk and invite dog...when lots of "party animals" show up, Scaredy Squirrel panics. Will he be able to recover and enjoy the party? This is the first time that Scaredy Squirrel's tendency to play dead annoyed me. I am not sure why. I do see how his over-the-top anxiety/OCD-like issues, plans, and freak outs could be funny but I think the presentation is mildly offensive and maybe even stereotypical. The paranoid squirrel is back and is having a birthday party in his beloved nut tree.....for one! Every detail is planned except, of course, for the unexpected. When Scaredy gets a surprise in the mail his sense of politeness prompts him to change his party plans to include one additional guest, his friend Buddy the dog. But an extra guest means moving the party to ground level and a revision in his carefully made plans. More unexpected surprises at the party cause chaos, panic and the usual need to play dead! This is Melanie Watt's fifth Scaredy Squirrel book and it is as much fun as the first four. I've read these books to classes at the school where I work. They always get laughs and are seldom on the shelf. This one is a keeper.

What do You think about Scaredy Squirrel Has A Birthday Party (2011)?

These books are fun but just a little too nutty (no pun intended) for me to really love them.
