Scott Pilgrim Contra El Universo (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
Don't get me wrong, the whole series is amazing and one of the best out there, but this is hands down the worst volume. The break up drags the whole thing down, although maybe that's a stroke of genius. Real break ups are slow and you don't really realize that last month or two was part of it till afterwords, and that's how this book feels, ya know? Like not until you put it down do you go, "OH! that was ALL part of the break up."Beyond that it's just that not a lot happens here, that alone makes this the worst of the series. But the worst of one of the best is only bad by comparison, right? I realise that, having seen the film first, i will probably compare the book to the film. And i'll probably note on things that didn't appear on things that didn't appear in the film or were edited (heavily) because you can't really make one normal-length film of six comics. So yes, a lot of the things in this book weren't featured in the film at all. But I like how the film portrayed the twins, which I think was a better, or at least a cooler way, than the comic did - in which they turn up with annoying robots all the time. I also like the musical battle that they had in the film. Yay for band-offs.
