A fun peek into a part of history not many people are aware of. It was fun to see people were as celebrity mad centuries ago as they were then. The author started with the Tudor era and continued all the way until the modern royal family. What stopped this from being a five star book was the length and content of the chapters. Rather then contain one royal per chapter, the author picked and chose which scandels to tell for each person in a series of shorter chapters, which lead to a small amount of time hopping and confusion. However, it was a fun read that I would recommend to anyone with an interest in the past and the royal family as a whole. If you look at the cover, you might think this is some cheesy tabloid trash, but it's actually a solid historical survey of the monarchs from the Tudors forward that doesn't overly dwell on the more prurient features of each person's reign. There's some sex, for sure, but what's most on display is the often mediocre, but thoroughly human behavior of the protagonists in all areas, from the bedroom to Parliament.
