Lola is used to having the mafia in her life as she’s grown up with it. After seeing the death of her mother, Lola is forever changed. She lives a self destructive lifestyle of partying and meaningless sex. Yet, Lola’s world is turned upside when she discovers a letter written by her mother the night before she died. When another mafia family kidnaps her and holds her father’s life in their hands, Lola must make a decision to enter the dangerous family life. Add in the fact her former childhood best friend works for a rival family and plays a part in her capture and her life continues to become darker and darker. Can she trust Layton?Sins and Temptations wields a short but violence riddled tale. True to Sorensen’s writing style she filled each page with emotion, action and suspense. While mafia stories are not usually in my to be read pile, I couldn’t help but pick up this novel by one of my favorite Indie authors. I’ve loved every book she’s published in the past several years I’ve followed her writing and this is no exception. If you are looking for a fast paced, thrilling Godfather-esque ride, then the Sins series will be right up your alley. Fantastic short prequel to what I hope is a great series! Our characters Lola & Layton are young teenage friends when the story begins & they are clearly starting to recognize each other as a little more than friends when tragedy strikes Lola's family. Their families are in the mafia & soon these two kids are torn apart. It seems that even though Lola & Layton should not have been friends due to loyalties to their family they actually were for quite a few years, at least until Lola heard that Layton is working for the enemy. Lola is blackmailed to save her family & she doesn't have much of a choice other than to fight back, and to fight dirty which means Lola will most likely never be the same. We know that Layton was her protector & confidant when they were childhood friends but who exactly is he now? Does he want more from Lola but he can't go against his family? Lola & Layton have a major sexual attraction going on & even when Lola should be scared for her life she can't dismiss Layton's seduction. The book ends on a great cliffhanger & we are left hoping Lola can make a clean break from her former life & start over...and yet what kind of life will that be without Layton? Great start to the series!!
