Seeds Of Hate (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

We all remember high school. Whether you were a geek, a cheerleader, a jock, a band nerd, or a nobody, high school affected you. This is Javi's story of survival. Waiting it out until high school is over. Waiting until he can turn his back and walk away for good. It takes a while for Javi's story to unravel. He trusts no one and the author, instead of laying everything out in the beginning, does a fantastic job of inviting you into Javi's world. There you meet Gio, the little boy next door who captures your heart and doesn't let go. You meet Izzy, the boy whose family owns a bakery and brings Javi a sticky bun and coffee every morning. There's Selah, the girl who always wears red shoes and band t-shirts and strolls up one day and so sweetly plants herself into Javi's life. Then there's Nate, the center of so much anger and hate, the "bully" of high school if that's what you want to call him. Javi isn't struggling to get noticed. He's struggling to stay hidden.“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”- Nelson Mandela,Long Walk to Freedom (quoted at the beginning of the story) You can't go wrong with this debut novel. You will truly be blown away by this touching story that leaves you wanting more. Each character tugs at your heartstrings...Javier - Selah - Izzy - even little Gio...They are all very human and live with an overwhelming sense of abandonment or rejection. The beautiful thing is...they are not alone in their pain and come together and fill a void in each others lives. We can all relate in some way to the characters in this book which is why you find yourself wanting a happy ending for everyone involved.I can't wait for book #2!
